Our school Curriculum is based on Rudolf Steiners principles and also meets current requirements of the NSW Board of Studies. The aim of teaching practices used at Rainbow Ridge School is for children to reach their individual potentialsand to enhance their qualities in the broader social context of the community.

As 'Steiner Teachers' we study anthroposophical philosophy as well as contemporary research to find answers we need to continue providing a quality education for our students.

The rhythm of the day is a fundamental pratcice in the Steiner classroom. The school day is divided
into three parts:

Main Lesson - main study - head/thinking realm
Middle Lesson - support lesson - chest/feeling ralm
Afternoon Lesson -activities - limbs/will realm

Class content is appropriate and specific to the age of children within that class.

The Main Lesson:
This is taught for the first two hours of the school day. The main lesson is taught in a 3-4 week block.
In order to achieve deep knowledge and understanding of the content the teacher implements a
creative and imaginative teaching practice. This practice allows children to delve into all aspects of the topic.
Topics are linked to English, Mathematics, Science and HSIE.

Middle Lessons:
These lessons can compliment the main lesson through numeracy and literacy development.
General topics include . More specific Topics such as
water cycles in Class One, class shop in Class Two and cooking in Class Three can be incorporated.
The middle lesson supports the more conceptual morning lesson by envolving students in
rhythmic and repetiitive, hands-on, activities.

Afternoon Lessons:
The afternoon lesson is directed towards the child's limbs. Activities can be linked to the main lesson.
For example a main lesson about plants can be supported by the planting of a class
garden in the afternoon lesson.
Other activites may include sport, dance, knitting, stitching and building.
These lessons meet the technical and practical arts needs of the students.

Gender: students participate equally in all areas of the curriculum content including art, drama, music and sport.

All Key Learning areas are taught in three week blocks to optimise learning.  No fragmentation of subjects takes place.

The wholistic outlook of every subject still remains the important grounding for analytical thinking and research. The school's curriculum embraces this  wholistic approach, to educate all the faculties of these children,
so they can develop into well balanced human beings.

Our secondary years continue to offer a balance of intellectual artistic and practical education, enabling the student to develop a  greater variety of skills, while teaching them flexibility, inventiveness  and creativity at the same time. Our school celebrates all seasonal events with the school community.  Each class holds a performance which includes music, dance drama and movement.

Excursions and class trips are regularly organised by class teachers. Excursions are  designed to enhance lessons with experiences outside the classroom. The school also  organises activities with other Steiner schools and professionals from outside the school.  This is designed as a social learning experience due to the size and location of the school.

Rainbow Ridge School is a member of other resource bodies such as the Writers Association of Byron Bay and the museums in Brisbane, It is also part of a network of local Steiner Schools.
